We gather for friendly open-play pickleball at Rengstorff Park.

Everybody is welcome every day: all ages, all skill levels, including total beginners. You don’t need to be a club member. You don’t need to come with a partner. We have a few spare paddles you can use if you’re interested in trying pickleball.

The courts are public and open to everybody. You can play there on your own, or mix with the crowd for open rec play.

Places to Play

Mountain View

  • Rengstorff Park Pickleball Courts. This is where we play. Two dedicated courts with permanent nets, one dedicated court that needs a portable net, and six dual-painted courts on top of tennis courts 3 & 4 (with lights!). The six dual-painted courts are only usable for pickleball at times specified by the city: Mon-Fri and Sun 10-3, Mon & Thu 6-8, Sat 2-7. There is easy parking behind the Mountain View Senior Center at 266 Escuela Ave, and at the Mt View Community Center at 201 S. Rengstorff Ave.

In general, courts are busy evenings, weekends and holidays. During the week, there are folks around most days around 9am or 10am, and Tuesdays/Thursdays are more popular.

  • Indoor adult drop-in pickleball is available at the Mountain View Sports Pavilion at Graham Middle School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 pm and Sundays from 1:30 to 7:30 pm for Mountain View residents and employees of Mountain View businesses. Details here. Attendance is intermittent; if you come alone, there may be nobody to play with.

Courts Rules & Etiquette

City of Mountain View Court Rules

There are signs of pickleball court rules at the dual-painted pickleball/tennis courts.

The Rengstorff pickleball courts are for everybody.

  • The courts are public. The club has no special access or designated times. There’s no such thing as “MV pickleball club time”. When we play, we’re all just individual community members.

  • People don’t need to mix with others in open rec play if they don’t want to. If the courts are full, they can put down two or four paddles in the queue, take their turn, and keep to themselves. Be welcoming, give space, and let everybody play the way the want to.

  • Nobody can make reservations, and nobody can charge money for any lessons, events, or other activities on the courts.

  • You should absolutely never tell anybody “you can’t play now.” This violates both the city rules and the ethos of pickleball.
